1. Losing connection with your heart and soul.

One common pitfall of human beings is listening to the mind more than listening to what the heart and soul have to say.

You need to silence your mind from time to time to hear the truth and wisdom of your soul. Avoid listening too much to what everybody is telling you and listen to your heart.

While your mind argues where you should go, and your heart argues why you should go, the soul can give you the whole map.

2. Living your life according to how others see fit.

As a child, your life has already been predetermined to an extent, by people around you such as parents, teachers, relatives, friends, and others who believed that they know what is right and proper for you.

They forgot to ask what you want, or if what they desire for you is the thing you want for you. Most often, their desire for you is what they, themselves, want for themselves.

Because you do not know that you are a unique being and you look for ways to better survive and be most secure, you listen to their whims, identify with them and believe to be true for you.

You start living as other people want you to live and you neglect your real self. That’s why you feel lost, because you are not on your path, you are on everyone else’s.

As Buddha said, you don’t have to believe anything to be true just because you heard it and many people are speaking about it. It is only you who hear the whispering of your heart and soul.

And you know very much, deep inside, what you want.

3. Valuing the opinions of others more than your own.

Because you have not fully acquainted with yourself, you value the opinion of others more than your own. You don ‘t have the needed trust to follow and listen to your own guts.

Seeking advice from others makes you feel confident, as if you’ll never go wrong.

While other people’s voices seem more valuable than your own, know that it is your life you are living and not theirs.

Remember then that your time on Earth is limited. Never waste it by living other people’s dreams.

Even though others might know better than you in other areas, the only area you will always know better than they do is what your heart tells you.

Fear thrives in the absence of confidence. The disconnection from your heart and soul results to losing confidence in yourself.

Consequently, you are spreading fear in your home, and workplace. Fear even affects your decision-making process, relationships, and particularly everything that you do.

Fear leads you to become lost, lose balance, and makes your life unhappy.

But once you connect to your heart and soul, you will be redeemed by love. Love conquers all your fears. Love will lead you to peace, and will help you discover your passion.

By loving yourself first, you will spread love to all people around you. Then you will ultimately find happiness and yourself.

Fear will always be there to act as your protector, but you will not be ruled by it.

5. Having a distorted sense of self.

When you are lost, you will have a distorted self-image. You will fail to see who you really are: your potentialities, capabilities to love, your light, passions, and your own truth.

As a result, you will see someone who is unworthy, incapacitated, insignificant, and even not good enough.

Connecting to your self is the only way to get yourself out of this misery.

How do you see yourself? How do others see you? Who you are deep inside? What is your purpose? What is your passion? What inspires you?

In life, you will find people who will drag you down. There are a lot of reasons why people act this way.

It might be that they want you to end like them, or perhaps, they just don’t know what they are actually doing, or they are scared of you being higher above them on the imaginary ladder. It doesn’t matter.

These people will influence you with their gossiping, constant whining about the difficulties of life, and how terrible things could get.

Listening to them continually will poison your heart and mind until all you see are doubts, fears, and negativity. You will then find yourself lost in the void of life that these poison drips have created.

Be wary of who you surround yourself with. Give more importance to your spiritual and emotional growth and you will find yourself.

7. Believing in the toxic truths that inhabit your mind.

Your mind is a beautiful instrument that could be used either to your own victory or your own destruction. It’s how you use it that the matter lies.

Eckhart Tolle puts it more accurately:

“… it is not so much that you use your mind wrongly — you usually don’t use it at all. It uses you. All the things that truly matter — beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace — arise from beyond the mind…”

Every toxic thought that runs in your mind is under your control if you will choose to use your mind for your own good. You alone have the power over your mind, no one else.

But in order to find yourself you don’t need to listen to your mind. Instead, calm your mind and listen beyond. The answers will first come in a form of emotion and a sense of knowing.

8. Believing that logic is more important than imagination.

Rationalizing everything that happens to you will make you feel lost.

Instead of experiencing the things that make you feel happy, you are rationalizing why they make you feel happy and destroy their essence.

Not everything is there to be rationalized, some things should be left for the imagination and others for the heart to experience.

Your mind is a tool, like a knife, that is used to get to know the parts of things in order to understand how they function.

Do not use it to butcher everything around you.

Living the present moment being obsessed with the memories from your past keeps your heart and soul lost.

Learn to let go of the past and give yourself the liberation it deserves.

You live and find your purpose in the present moment. Only there you can find yourself.

Trying to control everything that goes in your life will eventually prevent you from living the life that you really want to live.

Life thrives in the rhythm of the seasons, changing and flowing. It does not follow something that is against its nature. Going against this natural flow is putting yourself in imbalance and disconnection.

Getting lost from time to time is part of life’s natural flow. That’s how we discover a little more about ourselves. But resisting the opportunity to go to unknown territories can actually make you feel lost.

Feeling lost is part of our journey, a subtle tool that points us to the place we feel at home. And when it’s our time to journey home, we have achieved the greatest conquest of all: conquering our SELF.
