What can say everything about the potential toxic history of a fruit are the stickers on the fruit known as PLU codes. And they are not only the codes to look for the price of that product but they can give you information about the genetic modification or the fruit’s pesticide treatment.
With checking these codes you can know if the product that you are going to buy is produced with chemical herbicides, fertilizers or fungicides, or is it genetically modified or is it organically grown. Don’t get shocked if you find out that some of the products that you thought were organic are actually not.
Here is what the codes mean:
-What can indicate that the product is completely organic and that it is not genetically modified is a PLU code that has 5 numbers and the first number is 9.
-A symbol for pre-cut vegetables and fruits is a PLU code that begins with 5.
-What can indicate that the product is electronically pasteurized is a code that has 5 numbers and it starts with the number 3.
-What can indicate that the product is genetically modified is a PLU code that is with 5 numbers and the first number is 8.
-What can indicate that the product is grown traditionally with only using a few pesticides is a PLU code that has 4 numbers and it starts with the number 3 or 4.
The vegetables and fruits that are labeled and have the sticker are actually the imported ones and something is not right if there is no sticker on the fruit or vegetable that you are buying.
