The unnamed driver was soon arrested and taken into custody.

The “Unite The Right” was a demonstration event organised by members of the “Alt-Right”.

President Donald Trump released a statement on the matter, condemning “hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides.”

Trump added:

“We are closely following the terrible events unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides.

“It has been going on for a long time in our country — not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. It has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America.”

Speculations of who started the violence have been circulating.

On Twitter today, two trending hashtags were “Nazis” and “ANTIFA”, as both sides of the political spectrum accused each other of starting the violence.

Controversial alt-right figure Richard Spencer responded to a tweet by Melania Trump in which she denounced violent and hate:

Mayor of Charlottesville released a statement saying “I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here. I urge all people of good will — go home,”.
